Another NFL Chain Gang Crew Member Goes Down, This Time On A Brutal Fall In Bears-Texans Game

Thankfully this incident involving an NFL chain gang member was considerably less severe than the worker who needed CPR during the Raiders-Ravens game in Baltimore. Nevertheless, an older man holding the first down marker during Sunday Night Football had a violent fall, as his head whipped back into the turf and might've caused a concussion. https://twitter.com/JordanDajani/status/1835503142496051596 According to the NBC broadcast, the man sat up once medical personnel came to tend to him. He eventually exited the field on a cart but appeared to be alert and responsive. It's bizarre to see two chain crew incidents in a single NFL Sunday. Now isn't really the time to make a joke about how we can just use technology and not have chain gangs in the NFL. The concept has been kicked around in recent years, and we may very well see chain crews eliminated within the next three to five seasons or so. With two crew members going down today, I feel like at least in the Bears-Texans case, it's clear that a man that high in age shouldn't be in the line of fire with world-class athletes sometimes racing full speed toward him. Not sure what else to say on this one. Old men and women shouldn't be part of NFL chain crews. NBC got a little carried away with the replays, too. https://twitter.com/AndyHutchins/status/1835503822468243699 Now having said that, it's odd that there aren't
more brutal sideline collisions or incidents. These chain workers must be on high alert at all times. The slightest lapse in concentration could result in getting laid out by somebody whose body is two or three of you and built like a well-oiled machine. Not an enviable job, being a chain crew person. I mean yeah, you get to be right there on the field during an NFL game, but it'd be a little scary to see, say, Nico Collins barreling toward you on the sidelines. Players collisions had nothing to do with Sunday's chain gang-related scares, though. I guess we'll see if this has any bearing on the abolishment of the crews. My sense is we're already headed there, and these situations won't expedite things too much. The main takeaway should be that we're glad the crew people from Baltimore and Houston seem to be OK. Let's just celebrate that, because that's a big win on its own. ...Shoot. I hope the same is true for this
third incident, which did indeed involve a player. Justin Fields truck sticked somebody into next week. That man is definitely too old to be doing this. Come on, NFL. Be a little better. https://twitter.com/cptmcevoy/status/1835454284005298259
