“It’s Weird” – Miranda Lambert Reveals Why She Doesn’t Do Encores

Miranda Lambert likes to do things her own way. She's always been like that ever since she burst onto the country music scene in the early 2000s. And the 40-year-old has only become more confident over her impressive career, and rightfully so considering she's one of the most decorated country artists (award wise) of all time. Lambert just recently released her 10th studio album, which was titled
Postcards From Texas and features some new hits such as "Wranglers" and "Dammit Randy." If you haven't checked it out yet, you need to, because it's quite possibly the most Honky Tonk record that Miranda has ever put out. The country star stopped by The Bobby Bones Show last week to discuss her new album, some of her favorite songs from it, and how she likes to set up her own shows. In fact, when she was asked about what track she likes to use to close out her concerts, and she mentioned that her version of "Little Red Wagon" (which is featured on her 2015 album Platinum ) is what she usually uses as a finale. She was then asked what her go-to encore song is, and that's when Lambert revealed how she feels about encores. In typical Miranda Lambert fashion, she's not a fan of the whole show-and-dance with going off and on the stage, which eventually led her to omit encores from her concerts:
"I don't do encores. It's weird. Everybody knows... you just go off the stage and you're like, 'Y'all clap louder and I'm coming back.' And then everybody's leaving to go to their car. We just do our show and then it's over. It's like, 'Bye y'all, I know you've got to get home.'" Understandable. The radio host doubled down and offered up a hypothetical situation where Lambert would really have no choice but to go back out and sing another song. So she entertained the thought and explained that her encore - if she ever did one - would be rather simple: "That's never happened, because it's country music and their like, 'Well that was great, love you, see you next time!' But I would just go out there and do one by myself. Like a Hag song or something."
Hey, nothing wrong with closing out the show with a little Merle Haggard. I'm sure some fans would want an encore out of Lambert, but it sounds like she just works whatever her encore song would be into her setlist and wraps up her shows without any funny business. And at the very least, we've got to respect her honesty when talking about her viewpoints on encores, which you can listen to in more depth in the clip below: https://youtu.be/63tEW4iVD2w?si=AqdNH8aNl_T4fnoo&t=1034
