Darius Rucker Was “Shocked” By Jane’s Addiction’s On Stage Fight: “Too Loud? You’re Playing Rock & Roll”

Darius Rucker has some thoughts on how Jane's Addiction band members Perry Farrell and Dave Navarro let their "True Nature" show at a recent concert and fought one another on stage "Just Because," even as fans were likely screaming at them to "Stop!" Farrell, the band's frontman, was singing the band’s 1989 single “Ocean Size” when all of the sudden, he
yelled, "F**k you!" and angrily began elbowing Navarro , the band's guitarist. It's been grabbing headlines all over the internet ever since it happened, and it even popped up as a talking point when Rucker sat down with The Dan Patrick Show yesterday. Dan asked the Hootie and the Blowfish frontman if he and his band have had any fights during their current Summer Camp with Trucks reunion tour. Darius was quick to say that he and his bandmates have gotten along swimmingly as they've traveled across the country this year playing shows: "No fights at all. Great tour, really had a lot of fun. Played some golf together, hung out a little bit, but no fights. We all got along great. And the music (and) crowds were incredible. It was great."
That's when Patrick brought up the viral Jane's Addiction fight that played out on stage, and the longtime radio host asked Rucker if Hootie and the Blowfish have ever gotten to a point like that where a scuffle almost broke out on stage. The "Come Back Song" singer dismissed that they'd ever gotten close on stage, but did admit that he and the band's guitarist, Mark Bryan, almost threw some punches at one another: "Never on stage. Actually on Mark's porch one day, Mark and I almost got into a fisticuffs and that's the only time that's ever happened. But we've never fought." Would it be too cringey to try to make a "Hootie and the Exchanging Blows-fish" joke? Probably so, since I audibly let out a noise of discomfort as I typed that... Anyways, Rucker went on to talk about how floored he was by what happened with Jane's Addiction, and was really confused that the issue seemed to stem from the crowd being too loud:
"What I saw, that was shocking... that was shocking. Being in a band and playing in a band, then you find out the reason they were yelling was because they were too loud? Wow... you're playing rock and roll man. It's freaking Jane's Addiction and you're mad cause we're too loud." Doesn't make a lot of sense, that's for sure. Outside of fighting on stage, Darius Rucker also talked about the end of the Hootie and the Blowfish 2024 Tour coming up. From the sounds of it, the band's appearance in Charleston, South Carolina on October 12th could be the last Hootie and the Blowfish concert ever - or at least for quite some time: "Yeah that's it. We're done for... I don't know if we'll ever do this again. But if we do, it'll be a long, long time from now."

I finally listened to "ocean size" since they were not a band I liked (due to the vocals) it was the demo version. no wonder the guitar player tried to overwhelm the vocals
