Working until it's time to go to surgery. Last week, Joshua Ray Walker shared with fans the devastating news that his cancer spread. The "Voices" singer shared with fans at the end of last year that he was being treated for colon cancer and needed to take a few months off to focus on his health while undergoing treatment. While doctors had told Walker that his chances of making a full recovery without further treatment were high, fans were devastated when an update came across their desks with horrible news. His
cancer spread to his lungs and is now considered Stage-4. " Hey, y’all! Once again, I’ve got some good and bad news to deliver. The good news is that I’ve finished chemo treatment! It was extremely tough, and I want to thank y’all so much for supporting me through this experience. My body handled it reasonably well, and I’ve begun to rebuild my strength and immune system! The bad news is that upon the completion of tests to check on the status of my cancer post treatment, multiple nodes of varying sizes were found in both my lungs. Before I started chemo, I was told I had a 90% chance of having clear tests post treatment. So to find completely new growth in a new organ was something for which I was not prepared. This unfortunately means my cancer will likely be restaged to stage 4. I will get a lung biopsy and start radiation soon. I wish I had more information to share, but I’m still waiting to meet with a radiology oncologist following my biopsy surgery. I will keep y’all as updated as possible, and I will continue to fight my hardest. The odds have definitely shifted, but I’m not going to publish them here. It seems defeatist, and unnecessary. I’ll let you know what they were after I beat them. I’ve always lived life to the fullest, and I will continue to do so."
In sharing this update, he also provided a link to a GoFundMe so that friends, family, and fans can support him if they wish to do so. The financial strain put on an individual when undergoing this type of cancer treatment is extensive. For someone like Walker, who does not have a typical 9-5, it adds even more pressure as he will be unable to perform. Shortly after the link was posted, Walker's messages, comments, and GoFundMe page were flooded with kind messages and generous donations. He felt more than grateful for the overwhelming support he has received and continues to receive. https://www.instagram.com/p/C_yzA79S8Rb/ During this challenging time, fans know that Walker owes them nothing, but he feels he owes them some music before stepping away for his continued treatment. Today, he took to social media, letting fans know he is in the studio working diligently until his surgery later this week.
"Hey, y'all. I go into surgery in two days, and I'm going to be out of commission for a while. I don't know how the surgery or radiation is going to affect my voice, so I'm trying to get as much done as I can before Thursday. So, I'm here in the studio, working on some new songs. It's been a week since I put out the GoFundMe, and I'm just blown away by the amount of love I've received, and the amount of donations I've received. I'm going to keep getting on here and saying thank you, and I wish I had a better way of saying it. I think the best thing I can do is stay busy and keep making music, and that's what I'm doing. That's what I'm taking this time to do. I'm going to keep resting, keep taking my health seriously, and putting it first. But I couldn't just sit around and make nothing. So, I am letting you all know I'm still working on music, and I'm working on myself. If you don't hear from me for a few days, that's because I'm in the hospital, but I will give you an update when I get out. I love you very much; thanks for everything."
We don't deserve Joshua Ray Walker. Even when he should be selfish, he still thinks about those who consume his music. I'm unsure when we will hear what is cooked up from these studio sessions, but I feel the content matter will hit a depth unlike anything we've heard from Walker. We wish you the best of luck during surgery later this week. We are all in your corner. https://www.instagram.com/p/DACEboLSeoO/
