Riley Green Delivers Flawless Rendition Of Tim McGraw’s 2001 Hit “The Cowboy In Me”

Riley Green can cover some Tim McGraw like nobody's business. Today, he released a cover of McGraw's "The Cowboy in Me" as part of his Apple Music Sessions feature, which also includes a couple reimagined versions of his own singles "Jesus Saves" and "Worst Way." Of course, Riley included an awesome cover of Tim's "Damn Country Music" on his 2023 Ain't My Last Rodeo album, which you should definitely check out too because it was one of my favorite tracks on the entire record. "Cowboy in Me" was written by Jeffrey Steele, Al Anderson and Craig Wiseman, and released in November 2001 as the third single from McGraw's Set This Circus Down album. It peaked at #1 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks (now Hot Country Songs) chart just one week after McGraw's duet with Jo Dee Messina, "Bring On the Rain. In fact, was the first time that an artist replaced themselves at the top based on country radio play, and didn't happen again until July of this year, when Morgan Wallen reached the top spot with back-to-back singles "I Had Some Help" and "Cowgirls." Similar to McGraw, Riley has such twangy, gritty vocals that really allow him to flawlessly sell any country song he wants to, and so him putting his own spin on any of Tim's classics always feels so natural and authentic.
