The self-titled album. Today is the ninth birthday of the Turnpike Troubadours' self-titled record, The Turnpike Troubadours . In 2015, after taking a three-year break from making new music so they could tour and make money, the Oklahoma red dirt band threw down on this record. With the tracklist featuring classics like "The Bird Hunters," "The Mercury," "Down Here," "Long Drive Home," and more, this record is hands down a fan favorite among their listeners.
"We all felt like all of the other projects were rough, and they were kind of a second priority because we were out touring and trying to make money. For this one, we wanted to do a complete thought and actually execute it as well as we possibly could." Frontman Evan Felker said in an interview with Texas Music Scene TV. The whole band agreed that the recording studio environment in California fed their creativity in a way they had yet to experience as a band. RC Edwards also commented on how peaceful the process was of bringing their fourth album to life: "Just the vibe out there was really relaxed. We had no distractions, all the time that we needed to work on anything. So, that took the pressure off for me." Felker wrapped up the interview by sharing that before they went to California to cut the record, they were able to flesh out many of the tracks on this album. After completing the project, every band member felt confident in the sound and story they created.
"It's a declaration of who we are. This is our identity, and this is what you should expect from us." https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=fm5wY4XWhr0#:~:text=The%20Turnpike%20Troubadours%20Backstage%20Interview,that%20currently%20airs%20throughout%20Texas. This record takes listeners on a journey from top to bottom, keeping them engaged with each track. As Felker mentioned, the sound curated on this album solidified among fans that they are the cream of the crop regarding red dirt. There's a reason this record is a fan favorite, and the songs speak to that statement. Cheers to continuing to celebrate this record for many more years to come. Fire up a few while you're here.
