Ending a manhunt together... how romantic. Eastern Kentucky has been rattled ever since 32-year-old Joseph Couch shot at vehicles driving by on 1-75 on September 7th. It's estimated that the alleged suspect, who was positioned on a cliff overlooking the interstate, shot nearly a dozen vehicles. Five people were reported to be injured in the shooting, and thankfully, all of them are expected to make full recoveries. The shooting suspect fled the scene on foot and was believed to have retreated to the Daniel Boone National Forest area. A manhunt has been ongoing ever since the shooting occurred, but now thanks to a Kentucky couple, it appears the search for Joseph Couch might be over. Fred and Sheila McCoy, who have their own YouTube channel under the name
Hatfield and McCoy Museum Adventures , have been searching the woods and live streaming their searches on YouTube. They started looking in the Exit 49 area where the shooting happened, and decided to try and help find this man as a "date night" activity. And sure enough, after searching for countless hours and using some good old fashioned tracking, the McCoys stumbled upon a body that is presumed to be that of Joseph Couch. They were still live streaming when they found the body, but the video will likely be taken down by YouTube since it does briefly show a deteriorating corpse. Fred and Sheila McCoy talked with WKYT after they found the body just by observing vultures that were in the area: "We were looking anywhere we could look. Saturday we came out of (this gas station) and saw a bunch of vultures up there, and what we had been looking for, if somebody's dead, there's going to be vultures. Follow the vultures. There was only about five or six, and they were flying by that tower up there.
We figured it was a small animal since it was just so few of them. We came back Sunday and Monday and there were more and more. Today (when we found the body), there was about 50." Though the Kentucky State Police are still working to identify the body, Fred McCoy is fairly confident that the body they found is the shooting suspect that police have been searching for over the past two weeks. As to why the McCoys dedicated their date nights to searching for a missing and potentially dangerous person, they told the news station that they were obviously interested in the reward money, but more than anything just wanted to help return the community they live in back to normalcy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4bJ7wQWMtdg I believe Fred McCoy is wearing a "Caution: Man at Work" shirt in that interview, which just adds another level of unbelievable depth to this wild story out of Kentucky...
