Watch A Young Taylor Swift Cover George Strait’s “Run” In Front Of The King In 2009

Back when Taylor Swift was still country.

You might remember that in 2009, there was a little something called the "George Strait: ACM Artist of the Decade All Star Concert." The special aired on CBS, and honored George Strait as the Academy of Country Music's biggest star from 2000 to 2009.

It was quite the big celebration, and featured the likes of Toby Keith, Garth Brooks, Miranda Lambert, Dierks Bentley and Alan Jackson (just to name a few) all playing their favorite Strait hits to honor the King of Country as he sat just off stage. One of the country artists - now considered a former country artist - that performed was Taylor Swift. Before she contributed her portion to the night, she took a moment to recognize the help that Strait had given her at the beginning of her career: "When I was 16 years old, I went out on my very first tour as the opening act for George Strait. I'd never been on a big stage before or sung in an arena, so I asked him if he had any advice about performing in the round. And he said, 'Yes, I do.' I sensed I needed to ask a follow up question, so I said, 'How do you do that?' And he said, 'Just do it for about 25 years and it'll feel real natural.' Tonight I'm singing my absolute favorite George Strait song. It's called 'Run.'" Swift then broke into George Strait's hit, which was the lead single from the country great's 2001 album The Road Less Traveled . The song peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot Country Charts three separate times, but was never able to claim the number one spot. Though it apparently did reach the number one spot on Taylor Swift's personal favorite list, and she did quite the respectable job with it on George Strait's big night.
