Protecting all that she has invested in her career. The famed '90s country star Terri Clark put her name back at the forefront of country fans' minds earlier this year, reimagining hits for her project, Terri Clark: Take Two. With the record's success, Clark is letting fans know that she has been a force to be reckoned with and is not going anywhere. With a career as long and successful as hers, Clark has been mindful throughout the years of projecting her image as an artist, ensuring she does not tarnish her name. We know the tale of artists indulging in vices a little too much before getting on stage, leading to a disappointing performance, or getting trigger fingers on social media, firing off thoughts that would have been better kept to themselves. Because Clark knows all the stories of this ruining artists' careers, she shared on a recent episode of
Tracy Lawrence 's TL's Road House Podcast she has strict rules for herself when performing. "I've never had a drink before going on stage in my life. I've never had a drink on stage, and I've been that way since Tootsie's Orchid Lounge when I was 18." https://www.instagram.com/p/C_QpT6RJRJY/?img_index=1 While she is all business before and during the show, that does not mean that she does not cut loose after the curtain goes down. "When the lights go down, and I'm doing my thing... but when they come back up again, all bets are off. I've done plenty of shoes hungover. I don't like that feeling because, you know... I've seen the sun come up on the bus after playing Billy Bob's more times than I can count."
Clark and Lawrence laugh well about that last sentence, given how late artists go on stage at Billy Bob's. But she continues that she only allows herself to cut loose with a few drinks after the crowd goes home because she doesn't want to lose something she has worked hard for. "I mean, I think I've always been nervous about just losing something I wanted so bad for saying the wrong thing or just doing the wrong thing. And now with social media...well, we see people getting in trouble all the time because of social media." Lawrence then brings her reasoning for staying off social media and controlling herself during shows to a recent incident involving a massive star... "Stop throwing chairs off the top of buildings.
Clever move, Tracy Lawrence, clever. Clark hilariously replies: "Now, who? Who did that?" All jokes aside, I respect Clark's point of view. It is easy to get caught up in the rock and roll lifestyle that comes with being in the music industry. Because of that, some artists lose sight of what brought them into music. While many artists can party hard and still have their moment in the spotlight, the ones with long-lasting careers adopt this mindset or similar stances. Terri Clark is the real deal on and off the stage. https://www.instagram.com/p/DAV8w1UuJPa/ Check out the whole podcast episode while you're here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-hm1hFcuC-Y
