Wyatt Flores is giving us a new one. The Stillwater, Oklahoma native is fully embracing his roots as he releases the music from his forthcoming debut album, Welcome To The Plains . Fans loved the first release from the project, "Don't Wanna Say Goodnight," and today, he gave fans the second single, "Oh Susannah." "'Oh Susannah' is my favorite song on the new album, and it’s yours on Thursday." https://www.instagram.com/p/DARGBehR_Ac/ Fans have been itching to have this song due to its powerful message. Flores has always been vocal about mental health awareness, whether advocating for his fans to prioritize their own or opening up about his struggles; it's at the forefront of his brand and music. The open dialog he's created around this topic is part of the reason his music connects so deeply with fans. As artists do with many of their unreleased songs, they play them live before releasing them, and earlier this summer, Flores took "Oh Susannah" to the historic Grand Ole Opry stage. Most believe the Opry is not a place to test out a new track, but after Flores shared the powerful backstory of this one with the crowd that night, the Opry was the perfect stage for fans to preview this song. Before Flores sang the song's final chorus, his band softened, and he spoke about the meaning behind the lyrics. The song came together to honor a fan who had taken their own life.
“Aubreigh Wyatt was a young girl who committed suicide last year. And I remember being in Colorado in October when I saw a TikTok of her mom talking about it, and they said they liked my music, and I sent my condolences. There’s a whole bunch of stuff popping back up about the entire thing because she was bullied. They keep asking me to do something about it, and they keep telling me things because the last video that she had posted on TikTok was her singing ‘Please Don’t Go.'” While any artist loves hearing others connect with their music, there is also the weight and agony of knowing your music was appreciated by someone no longer here. Flores revealed on stage that his emotions surrounding the tragic story of Aubreigh Wyatt played a role in why he took a step away
from music earlier this year. “I had to step away from music earlier on this year, right after I had played the Opry because of a lot of different reasons, and one of those was feeling the weight of the world of trying to help people and not feeling like I was. As cool as it is that I get to do this, this is my job, and the music I portray… it gets to save lives. But there’s also the dark side of it, where you don’t know if that song just kept them on Earth just a couple of days longer. I didn’t write that song, ‘Please Don’t Go,’ for everybody out there in the world. I wrote it because of the situation I was in with the girl that I loved. But this song is for y’all, ‘Oh Susannah’ is you. I wrote this for you… and I’m sorry.” As it's been a few months since Flores shared this backstory, he expands on his feelings of what "Oh Susannah" means, and Flores mentions that he wants to help people through his music, but he, personally, cannot help everyone struggling. "I'm trying to keep my distance because beforehand you get so consumed, and then you try and help as many people as you possibly can, and that's what I tried to do. But then the fan base grew so much, and I just kept trying and trying and trying, and then it just led to destruction. I just ended up hating myself because of the codependency thing and the people pleasing, and really, that song 'Oh Susannah' is the fans... The fan base of me just being like, 'Dude, I can't help you with your sh*t. I wish I could, but I can't even help myself at this point.'"

He has to be able to carry his burdens to keep trucking on and keep his career going, and if he is taking on the burdens of others, it impacts his ability to write and create music that helps others. While he wants to be there for his fans, "Oh Susannah" reminds his listeners that he can't bear the weight of everything they struggle with. "And Oh, Susannah Don’t you go crying for me It’s all getting better I couldn’t be who you want me to be Thought I was a savior But I was a fool on drunken behavior Why did I believe I could save you, darlin’ Without killing me..." It's been a long time coming for Wyatt Flores to give this one to fans, and boy, does it live up to the hype. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lpcu0J0kPrQ
