The first single from Reboot 2 is here. Last week, Brooks & Dunn announced they are running it back with Reboot 2 . In 2019, the legendary '90s duo released a collection of their hit songs as collaborations with other artists. Reboot included huge names like Cody Johnson, Luke Combs, Jon Pardi, and more. Reboot 2 will feature another collection of hit songs from the Grammy Award-winning duo with a new lineup of artists. However, this time, the featured artists will have total creative freedom over the tracks. Ronnie Dunn said: “The premise of the project was ‘No rules.’ For this one, we purposely loosened the screws and turned ‘em loose to do whatever they wanted. We actually went way off the rails, in a good way.”
The featured artists include Lainey Wilson , Riley Green, Morgan Wallen, Hailey Whitters and more. While the entire project is slated for a November 15th release, fans are getting a taste of what's in store for the record as Brooks & Dunn dropped the lead single today. "'Play Something Country' with Lainey Wilson… out FRIDAY… 'REBOOT II'" https://www.instagram.com/p/DAR6egGOrtj/ "Play Something Country" was released in 2005 as the first single off Hillbilly Deluxe. Written by Ronnie Dunn and Terry McBride, the single hit number one on the Billboard Country charts later that year, making it the duo's 20th and final number-one single to date. Brooks & Dunn were on tour with Gretchen Wilson when the song was written, and her rough and rowdy spirit inspired them. This gave McBride the idea to make the single about a woman busting into a bar and demanding to hear honest-to-God country music.
"Yes, she blew through the door like TNT, Put her hand on her hip, pointed a finger at me. Said 'I'm a whiskey drinking, cowboy chasing, helluva time. I like Kenny, Keith, Alan and Patsy Cline. I'm a full grown queen bee looking for honey. Ha oh ho, aw, play something country.'" Lainey Wilson was the perfect female artist to bring on the track, given that another Wilson inspired the song. She is authentically herself with her Bell Bottom Country style and flair, and she is bringing country music back to its roots. Prior to the single's release, the trio showed a little behind-the-scenes footage of the making of "Play Something Country," and Wilson showed up to the studio wearing Kix Brooks'
Hard Workin' Man flame outfit. "First of all, I took this out of Kix's closet... I have been looking forward to this day for so long. These dudes right here, they are the soundtrack to my childhood. I was excited to get in here and make some magic with them." https://www.instagram.com/p/DAJLj3qgJTZ/ Magic is what they made. This reimagination amps up the honky tonk sound and brings in elements of rock and roll for one helluva boot-stomping tune. While the song's integrity is still present, the sound is different than the original cut of the song. Instead of the iconic guitar riff kicking off the track, guitar chug builds up the anticipation before they bring in the riff fans know and love. Wilson kicks off the first verse, and the harmonies between the Louisiana native and the '90s legends are to die for. The sound continues to ramp up throughout the tune, and by the end of it, listeners are transported to a rowdy honky tonk scene. This is one rocking reboot of the famed single and one heck of a way to lead off what is in store for the rest of this record. Turn this one up to max volume today. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JrAb8ohTdO0 We could not enjoy this stellar reimagination of "Play Something Country" without the original, so fire that up while you're here, too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TQML3jIC_9I
