“I Was Seriously Considering Them!” Tom Brady Reveals He Nearly Signed With The Chicago Bears

Whatever you want to say about Tom Brady as a broadcaster only four games into his career in the field, you can't deny that Week 4 was his best yet. Whether he was issuing a rebuttal to Baker Mayfield , or breaking exclusive news about his only time in the free agency pool, it was pretty sweet. Regarding the latter point: Brady shared with the FOX audience a list he made of certain criteria for his free-agent suitors — about 18 items from the quality of facilities to supporting cast, and so on. The Bucs were a boneheaded Jameis Winston away from being a Super Bowl-caliber roster. Brady knew that, and made the right call to go to Tampa, as it culminated in his seventh Lombardi Trophy. But it wasn't without a lot of thought. Brady heard out anyone who'd give him the time of day, which was surprisingly few teams. The only ones I knew about to date were the Chargers and Bucs. Then, Brady dropped this bomb during Sunday's telecast, revealing that the Chicago Bears were stealthy in their pursuit of TB12: https://twitter.com/Schultz_Report/status/1840479312497332323 Only fitting that the Bears proceeded to sign Nick Foles — one of only two QBs to ever beat Brady in a Super Bowl — a mere 11 days later. I wonder where Chicago fans land on this. Brady in the Windy City would've brought so much hope. No doubt
Rob Gronkowski would've joined him, too, along with whichever other veterans Brady wanted on the open market. Had the crusty old Bears ownership and GM Ryan Pace pulled the trigger on this move, who knows? Maybe Matt Nagy is still the head coach in Chicago. Maybe Pace is still in his post as GM. Maybe instead of trading up for Justin Fields in the 2021 NFL Draft, they stick and pick a superior player, or move up to 11th overall again to draft Dallas Cowboys superstar Micah Parsons. The hypotheticals to contemplate are endless. I have my doubts that the Bears would've won a Super Bowl even with Brady's considerable help. But hey, would've been entertaining as hell to see him try to overcome decades of dysfunction at the quarterback position. We'll see if reigning No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams has the goods to get it done.
