Koe Wetzel Surprises Fans & Releases Cover Of Garth Brooks’ 1990 Hit “The Dance”

Koe Wetzel covering Garth Brooks doesn't make much sense on the surface but his die-hard fans know this has been a long time coming. Yesterday, Koe dropped a 3 stripped down songs exclusively on Apple Music, which despite totally shunning country music in its 100 Best Albums list, has done a pretty great job of bringing cool versions of songs from great artists like Turnpike Troubadours, Charles Wesley Godwin, Tyler Childers and Riley Green. The three songs are "Sweet Dreams", a cut off his new record 9 Lives , the forever deep cut fan favorite "Austin" (which was my most listened to song for three years in a row), and "The Dance," which Garth Brooks originally released in 1990. Written by Tony Arata, it was the final track on Garth's self-titled debut album. It reached number one on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart and remained there for three weeks until Dan Seals' "Good Times" usurped it. Koe isn't a stranger to covering this song. It's been in and out of rotation at his live shows for awhile now and fans have been begging for an official version, and while Spotify users like myself are SOL, if you've got Apple Music you're probably pretty dang happy right now.
