“First Good Idea He’s Had In Years” – Brooks & Dunn Reveal ‘Reboot’ & ‘Reboot 2’ Idea Came From Their Manager

Running it back with Reboot 2. Brooks & Dunn recently announced they are giving fans another collection of reimagined hits with their forthcoming record, Reboot 2 . In 2019, the famed '90s duo shared the first Reboot with fans, bringing on huge names like Luke Combs and Cody Johnson and more as collaborators. The collaborative record revitalized their career, and they decided to do it again five years later. However, on Reboot 2, Brooks & Dunn let the collaborative artists have free rein over their given song. "The first one was to keep everything between the lines and to not stray very far from the previous cuts. 'Reboot 1,' we are on 'Reboot 2' now.
But neither of these were our idea to do, it was our manager's. It's the first good idea he's had, I think, in years." Ronnie Dunn shared on the most recent episode of This Past Weekend with Theo Von. While it might not have been their idea, I'm sure they are thanking their manager as the first Reboot was a hit, and after the lead single's release of Reboot 2 , "Play Something Country" featuring Lainey Wilson, it appears it will also be a hit. Dunn details that all eighteen featured artists picked the song they wanted to cover and worked out how they wanted to record it. "They can pick whatever song they want. And that goes on without us; that's all up to them. Maybe they haggle about it with management or whatever.
Anyway, everyone showed up with their own version of the song. You've got artistic, creative license to do whatever you want with this one." Ronnie jokes that he has immense respect for these artists reimagining these classic songs because he has to get fed the words to his own songs through his in-ear on stage. He couldn't imagine picking apart someone else's work and recomposing it. Lainey Wilson's imagination of "Play Something Country" shows that listeners can expect that most songs will hold the same integrity as the original track but will infuse elements of each artist's distinct sound with the tracks. As Wilson described, when re-working her track, she "put some juice on it." "Even though they said take the reins, do what you want to do. I was like, 'Y'all, this is a classic.' But we rocked it up, and we put some juice on it."
I can't wait for November 15th to hear the record in full. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mM54-9dQT-k Check the full episode of This Past Weekend with Theo Von while you're here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7ehBCkF7V4
