Keep 'em coming, Chief. When Eric Church opened his new Nashville bar, Chief's, this past spring, he announced that he would be performing a 19-show residency called To Beat The Devil at the bar's music venue, the Neon Steeple. The result was a Church show unlike any other. From a surprise choir to never-before-heard stories about his life and career, the show gave fans an intimate look at Church and an unforgettable experience. (You can read more about it here if you want, but just be warned that it contains spoilers). Well Church wrapped up his run of 19 shows this summer - but he's ready to get back at it. Church announced today that he would be adding four new dates for his To Beat The Devil
residency, taking the stage at Chief's on October 29, November 1, November 13 and November 17. Tickets are available exclusively to members of his fan club, the Church Choir, and the presale sign up is open now through 11:59 PM tomorrow. And to make sure as many fans as possible are able to get in for the special show, this round of tickets is only open to fans who haven't previously bought tickets to the residency. Church has stayed pretty busy lately, releasing his first new single in 3 years, “Darkest Hour,” and signed away all of his rights to the song to benefit his home state of North Carolina as they work to recover from the devastation of Hurricane Helene. It was a song that wasn't even supposed to be released yet, with Church saying that he had just finished it up for his next project, and decided to put it out early in the wake of the storm. But he also revealed that there’s more to come:
“I was in the studio for a project next year. Kinda doing what we always do, which is trying to be different and challenge myself creatively. Playing with an orchestra and symphony and choir, doing some really interesting stuff.” If you’ve listened to “Darkest Hour,” you hear that orchestra and choir on the soulful ballad, which has almost a Motown or southern gospel feel to it. And we’ve also gotten more tastes of that sound from Church recently with his controversial performance at Stagecoach Festival, which featured a gospel choir and an acoustic performance that upset some in the crowd. And if you were lucky enough to catch the first round of Church's residency at his Nashville bar, you also got a taste of this new sound as Church brought out a surprise choir during part of the show, including for an unreleased song called “Johnny” that I really hope makes the new album. For fans of Eric Church, the residency will no doubt go down as one of the best shows you'll ever see (from any artist), so I have a feeling the tickets for these four dates aren't going to last long. But hey, maybe he's just going to keep the dates coming. Nobody's going to be mad at that.
