The No Fun League strikes again. In both NFL and college football, we've seen officials crack down on firearm-related celebrations, including one penalty during the close matchup between Minnesota and USC this weekend when a defender...pulled up his jersey. https://twitter.com/cjzero/status/1842760213486538940 https://twitter.com/Chris_Oven/status/1842760848647012775 Seems a little nitpicky, no? Well we saw it in the NFL recently too, including a flag against New York Jets wide receiver Allen Lazard who celebrated a first down by shooting finger guns. https://twitter.com/Rate_the_Refs/status/1840475356916261071 I guess Yosemite Sam would never be able to play football. The Jets were hit with a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, and this past week Lazard was fined $14,000 for the celebration. And like the rest of America with even a shred of common sense, Jason and Travis Kelce believe the the penalty is ridiculous. The brothers discussed the recent trend of firearm penalties in the NFL, slamming the "No Fun League" for impacting the game over something so trivial. According to the Kansas City Chiefs tight end:
"This is just getting ridiculous... I know we don't want this to be like, 'Oh, NFL players shooting guns,' and I get that. But this is so subtle. Unless you're doing it at a defender it shouldn't be a flag. If you want to fine the guy after the game for doing it, whatever, that's up to the NFL for wanting to protect their league. But I think it is absolutely ridiculous that a guy is on the ground shooting, pointing fingers, for getting a first down, saying we're going that way or whatever he might be doing. I just think it's too much, man. It's affecting the game in the wrong way." And his brother Jason agreed: "This is where the league is getting this wrong... You're right. If you're not directing it at another player, or at a fan, or at a person...what are we doing here?"
Both brothers agreed that it's ridiculous for something as harmless and playful as shooting finger guns to have an impact on the actual game, and that the better course of action for the NFL would be to simply fine the player afterwards if they wanted to send a message. But when has the NFL ever used any common sense? https://twitter.com/newheightshow/status/1841983494714753471
