From Here to the Great Unknown , is giving fans a in-depth look at her life and thoughts like never before. Of course, one of the most shocking stories revealed in the book was about how Lisa Marie kept her son, Benjamin's, body
in her California home for two months after his tragic death. Elvis Presley’s daughter, Lisa Marie,
tragically passed last year at 54 years old after suffering full cardiac arrest last January. Before her passing, she was writing a personal memoir about her life, which was finished by her actress daughter Riley Keough. Riley writes in the book at length about her brother’s struggles with mental health and how he’d often binge drink. Although Benjamin Keough took his life in 2020, Riley writes that she did not believe her brother wanted to die. She later recalls that she and her mother went through his phone after he passed, looking for any answer, and shares with readers the heartbreaking text she found.
“We found a text sent to my mom a couple of weeks before he died that read, ‘I think something’s wrong with me mentally or something like that. I think I have a mental health issue. It’s heartbreaking to me that he only realized he might need help just two weeks before he killed himself.” After his passing, Lisa Marie wrote that she was so heartbroken by his passing that she had to “fight” to stay alive for her other children, Riley and her twin daughters Harper and Finley Lockwood. An Oprah Special: The Presleys — Elvis, Lisa Marie and Riley , Riley revealed more to the story, saying that Lisa Marie wanted to get a tattoo as permanent tribute and reminder of him. But she wanted it in the exact place that Benjamin had tattoos of them. He had his sister’s name written on his collarbone and his mom’s on his hand, so they wanted to match by getting his name on the exact spot on their body where he had theirs. But Lisa wanted it so exact, that she had the tattoo artist look at his preserved body when he came to their house. Riley
recalls :
"He’s like, 'OK, do you have any photos?' And she was like 'No, but I can show you.' It was definitely one of the most absurd moments." She clarified that her mom was "not crazy," just very much "herself," and I know Lisa Marie had such a tragic life so it's not hard to imagine all of the pain and suffering she went through for decades, from losing her father at a young age as well as her son.
