Sydney Sweeney has been training for months for her upcoming biopic about champion boxer Christy Martin, and it really shows. Physical transformations are inevitable when you're portraying world-class boxers. We've seen extreme versions of that from men across decades of movies. Whether it was Robert De Niro in Raging Bull, Sylvester Stallone in Rocky, or the many who came after them, there's no shortage of inspiration to mine from witnessing a fully-committed lead actor push themselves to the limit with those boxing gloves on. Even though the story being told is fiction, it's very tough to fake a good-looking boxing movie. At least from how she's built up her body of late, Sweeney certainly looks the part of a WBC super welterweight champ. The Hollywood megastar revealed her new bulked-up look to get ahead of the paparazzi leaking images for themselves. https://www.instagram.com/p/DBMAj2tOpMx/ This project is probably going to be a big hit. Productions for boxing movies don't tend to be super expensive, especially compared to a lot of big-budget blockbusters of today. You don't need many special effects, the locations are limited since you're spending so much time in the ring, and if you have someone with Sweeney's star power leading the way, it's bound to be a hit at the box office. It's nice to see Sweeney striving for acting challenges and continuing to be a creative force as a producer. The haters who want to say she's just showing off her, ahem, assets and doesn't have much to offer otherwise are flat-out wrong in my opinion. She's still coming into her own as an actor, and is proactively trying to tell either original stories or ones like this with a strong female lead as the anchor. That can be a bad stereotype or a lazy movie-writing way to draw in the female demographic and tick off certain men, but here, you can't really deny Christy Martin is a bada**. Martin fought professionally until she was 44, posting a record of 49-7-3 with 32 knockouts. However, the wild part about that: She lost her last two bouts, which came after she survived an attempted murder by her husband. He shot Martin and stabbed her multiple times, but she survived. There's actually a Netflix documentary that centers around Martin, detailing the domestic abuse she suffered, how she drank heavily to cope with it, and so on. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zjRLhSTo7lk To give you another example of how chaotic and rough things were for Martin, even after fights during her prime, her mom would bring a Mason jar of moonshine to celebrate. Talk about battling inside and outside of the ring. So you combine all the external factors this movie has going for it and combine it with a true crime angle, and I'm almost 100% certain it's going to appeal to a massive audience. What a fascinating real-life subject for Sweeney to take on. I'll be seated Day 1 in all likelihood.
