George And Bubba Strait, Jamey Johnson, Zach Top & Dean Dillon Team Up For Awesome Performance Of “Give It Away”

The dream team. Last night, George Strait hosted his annual Valqueros del Mar golf benefit (and show) that supports the Feherty’s Troops First Foundation . The incredible Feherty’s Troops First Foundation provides assistance to military members and veterans, as well as their families, who have been wounded while serving in Iraq or Afghanistan. Every year, Strait raises a ton of money for veterans, and always brings along a few very talented friends to make the night even more special. And this year was no exception, as artists from Ernest to Jamey Johnson took the stage and performed their own songs, as well as some of Strait's biggest hits. What looked like the coolest part of the night, though, was when George brought out his son, Bubba, as well as Jamey , Zach Top and his longtime, legendary songwriter Dean Dillon to perform "Give It Away." Of course, Jamey wrote it alongside Bill Anderson and Buddy Cannon, and George included it as the lead single on his 2006 record It Just Comes Natural. It became his 41st #1 single on the Billboard U.S. Hot Country Songs chart, breaking Conway Twitty’s previous record of 40 on that chart. The track also won George and company the ACM for both the Single of the Year and Song of the Year awards in 2007, as well as the Song of the Year award at the CMA’s that same year, too. It's absolutely amazing to see a young star in Zach Top up there on stage with such legends, and I can't say I'm surprised to see Strait endorse him in this way... they have a lot of similarities in their neotraditional sound and traditional country roots. I have to say, I'm quite jealous of all the fans who got to witness this in person, but even watching it on video is pretty dang cool.
