SEC Basketball Players Couldn’t Identify VHS Or Cassette Tapes During Their Media Day: “My Grandma’s Got A Bunch Of Them”

Feel old yet? With college basketball season right around the corner, media days are in full swing. The SEC held their media days in Birmingham, Alabama this year, with all 16 member schools present representing the premiere athletic conference. Personally, I'm not a fan of the SEC, but just knowing that college basketball is almost back boosts the ol' serotonin levels. Though something that the NCAA March Madness account did during the SEC media days didn't exactly make me happy - or feel young. That's because they decided to ask players from different schools if they could identify what they called "classic items," which ended up being a flash drive, a VHS tape, and a cassette tape. "Level 1" was the USB drive, and thankfully, most of the hoopers knew what this device was. Frankly, a flash drive isn't that old (
right? ), and they're still used a lot in the modern age. At least I hope that they are, because the next two items they had to reveal could definitely be described as artifacts. "Level 2" was a VHS tape, and this one really puzzled the SEC's brightest stars. Some guesses included "DVD," "DVD player" and "CD Tape." Others vaguely remembered it, but this is the part of the video where it really starts to hurt to watch. I've honestly never felt older. "Level 3," the final boss if you will, was a cassette tape. They might as well have handed over an item from a different planet, because the cassette really stumped a lot of the players. An Auburn player's guess was "Cape Corder," which is just an absurd thing to say out loud. Florida's Walter Clayton saw it and said, "My grandma's got a bunch of them." All in all, it was very well done by the NCAA March Madness social media team. If they're goal was to make a lot of college basketball fans feel old, they succeeded. And the meme editing throughout the video gets a "chef's kiss" from me. Take a look: https://twitter.com/MarchMadnessMBB/status/1846886876017205507
