The Internet Is Rightfully Disgusted (Yet Intrigued) By This Chicago-Style Hot Dog Daiquiri

It might just be me, but I fear I am having PTSD from Kroger's hot dog water cocktail . This new cocktail feels the same but in a different font. At the end of the summer, a Chicago-based creator shared a video highlighting a cocktail called the "hot diggity dog" daiquiri, which, yep, you guessed it, combines the flavors of a hot dog with a traditional daiquiri. Although the original post is a few months old, social media has a second wave of reactions this fall. A traditional daiquiri features rum, lime juice, and simple syrup, served over fresh ice. It's refreshing, simple, and pretty hard to f**k up. So why take a good thing and make it...worse? A Chicago mixologist put her spin on the classic cocktail, making it Chicago-coded by adding features of a Chicago-style hot dog. The cocktail's base remains the same: rum and lime juice, but it's spiced up with Apologue celery root liqueur and mustard simple syrup. It's topped with a hot dog garnish and a drizzle of tomato oil. The color of the cocktail is not alarming; however, I fear the taste might be off-putting. https://www.instagram.com/reel/C-oMY0wRbsz/?igsh=MXE3MHJuZzRhdWY4ag%3D%3D While the mixologist and the content creator raved about how delicious the drink is, claiming it to be a stellar adaptation of the classic daiquiri, social media users were not as quickly sold. The comments section was filled with users either utterly disgusted with the concoction or mildly curious about how the flavors work together.
"I mean…. I feel obligated to try it but maybe a poppyseed rim???" "Think it needs an infused Malört (sidecar?) to really Chicago it up." "Just because you can doesn't mean you should." "This is f***ing vile. I must try it." "Liquid glizzy." "I really thought there was going to be hot dog water in this and I was ready to throw hands." "Does living in Chicago qualify as a pre-existing condition?" "Gotta wash the rum with hot dog water." "Unhinged in the best way possible." "Honestly, nah, but I’ll still try it." "You're kidding." "WTF." "I'm interested."
I must admit that I'm in the same boat as many of these commenters: slightly grossed out but down to try it. The reviewers seemed to be enjoying it, so it's either not that bad, or they have incredible poker faces. Can we go back to eating hot dogs and enjoying them with a beer?
