Hey, at this point we might as well give them a shot. I'm a New Orleans Saints fan myself, so I was feeling great after the first two games of the season. Massive wins against the Carolina Panthers and the Dallas Cowboys, quarterback Derek Carr and new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak had the offense humming, and even coach Dennis Allen had some swagger about him. But then the wheels fell off. The Saints went from opening the season 2-0 to losing their next 5 games and currently sitting 2-5 after a disastrous loss to the Denver Broncos (coached by former Saints coach Sean Payton) at home on Thursday Night Football. Fans in the Superdome filed out early during the embarrassing performance from the black and gold, and even running back Alvin Kamara and quarterback Spencer Rattler looked frustrated with the team. Of course the Saints have been hit hard by injuries, with a third of the team on the injury report ahead of Thursday's game. The top two wide receivers, Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed, are both out, with Shaheed undergoing season-ending meniscus surgery. Derek Carr is also injured and was forced to sit out Thursday, and tight end Taysom Hill has missed time this season too. It's been rough. So when a post began circulating on social media advertising open tryouts for the Saints, it wasn't entirely far-fetched...even though it was fake.
Well apparently the good people of New Orleans are willing to do anything to help their beloved Saints, and were actually showing up at the Saints practice facility on Airline Drive to try out for the team. It got so bad that Saints linebacker Willie Gay Jr. even had to put out the word for fans to stop showing up hoping for their chance to suit up:
I mean, kudos to Saints fans for being willing to step up to turn things around. Unfortunately, I have a feeling that as long as we're stuck with Dennis Allen as our head coach, it doesn't matter who suits up for him. But regardless, Who Dat!
