Always a gem, that Lainey. Over the weekend, Lainey Wilson played a show in Alpharetta, Georgia, at Ameris Bank Amphitheatre, at a stop on her massive headlining Country's Cool Again tour. She ran through hits and fan-favorite songs, but there was an extra special moment when she noticed a simple sign a fan was holding in the crowd that read: "We survived Helene." Of course, I think we've all seen photos and videos of the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene that ripped through the southeast, and the recovery efforts in many mountain towns in western North Carolina and other states is ongoing. So far, the death toll is over 230 people and there are still around 100 or so missing in North Carolina. It's been a tough time for our state, along with others like South Carolina and Georgia, and Lainey got emotional herself talking about it, especially knowing that people who survived the horrific storm were in the crowd and trying to escape that reality at her concert. She got choked up talking about how sad the whole thing is, telling the fans that brought the sign that the show was for them and she was so thankful they were at her show:
"We all know that North Carolina and a lot of other states have been through a lot, parts of Georgia in the past few weeks... man, I'm getting emotional. But I just wanna say, tonight, a lot of y'all are probably dealing with heartbreak for your friends and family, and my heart is with y'all, my crews heart is with y'all. We're gonna lay it at His feet tonight... I'm so thankful that y'all are here tonight, and that you chose to come here, so this show is for y'all. Man, I got snot dropping out of my nose. Put that on TikTok. Somebody just said in my ear, 'Lainey, do you need tissues?' I'm just gonna sit down right here for a second." She went on to talk about her song "Middle of It," and eventually got some tissues, and it looked like a really sweet moment for every in attendance:
Additionally, the fan named Maddy who brought the sign shared a video of the moment on TikTok, saying she was "speechless" that Lainey actually saw their sign and acknowledged it. They also gave her a "Hills to Hollers" shirt that's part of a fundraising effort, and it's cool to see how much it meant to Lainey that her fans had been through so much that she took the time to spotlight them like this: "Found myself just short of speechless when Lainey Wilson cried with us, and with the rest of WNC and Appalachia. Hurricane Helene ripped through our communities, taking lives, farms, businesses & homes with her. Our sign was far from fancy & read 'We survived Helene.' WE did. Appalachia did. We knew we were asking for a hail Mary with our hope that LW would see us, let alone accept our gift to her. In true Lainey fashion she surpassed all expectations and we're still sitting on Cloud 9! *If anyone is interested, the shirts we're wearing & that Lainey was given are available for purchase with 100% of proceeds going to our friends & neighbors that lost everything.** LINK IN BIO 🫶 Thank ya Lainey Wilson you're a Dandy. XO"

Of course, normalcy is far from reality for so many in western North Carolina and those aforementioned other states, but I have to imagine escaping that even for just one concert, and having that moment with Lainey, was amazing for the soul.
