Dolly stepping up once again. Of course, over the weekend, Luke Combs and Eric Church hosted their massive Concert for Carolina benefit show, which raised over $24.5 million for Hurricane Helene relief efforts. Much of their native western North Carolina was devastated by catastrophic flooding at the end of September. It was an amazing night full of great music from Billy Strings, James Taylor, The Avett Brothers and so many more great artists, and they obviously raised a TON of money for the people in western North Carolina who are still hurting in the wake of the historic storm. And while one of Appalachia's finest, Mrs.
Dolly Parton , unfortunately wasn't in attendance, host Marty Smith announced on her behalf that Dolly was donating an additional $1 million to Hurricane Helene relief efforts. Dolly already donated $1 million from her own personal bank account, as well as $1 million from her various business entities, to recovery efforts, so it's incredible that she's continuing to give and give BIG. This money actually comes from the Courage and Civility award fund she was honored with by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and his partner Lauren Sanchez. I'm not surprised to see her giving to victims of Hurricane Helene specifically, because Dolly always shows up to help her mountain people and this is no exception. Smith read a statement from Dolly to the crowd at Bank of America stadium, where she stated that she wanted to help "our people with recovery" as much as she can:
"So I want you to know, that I'm directing one million dollars on his behalf to the Concert for Carolina... to my neighbors in North Carolina for recovery efforts. I know money won't solve all the pain and suffering these floods have caused, but maybe it will help some of our people with recovery. It will take all of us working together, but we can do it. Love, Dolly." The queen stays winning, and she always does it with such a generous and humble heart: Of course, it will be a long road to recovery for so many, but with country artists like Dolly, and Eric Church who just announced plans to build 100 homes in Avery county (where he also owns a home) through his "A Blueprint for the Blue Ridge" campaign, there is hope and so much generous help. Eric also released "Darkest Hour" about a month ago, and he also signed over the publishing to his home state, so they money will forever go to ongoing recovery efforts for Hurricane Helene victims.
