Stanley fire doubles in size over the weekend; Cow Valley fire in eastern Oregon at 130,000 acres
If it's not already clear from the smoke in the air, wildfire season has begun. Over the weekend several wildfires, including one in Stanley, have grown significantly in size. The Bench Lake fire, in Stanley and the Sawtooth National Forest, started on July 11 around noon and although Idaho saw cooler temperatures on Sunday, the Bench Lake fire doubled in size over the weekend.

Children’s Festival delights young readers up in Jacksonville
JACKSONVILLE, Ore. – The Children’s Festival continues on into Monday in Jacksonville up on Britt Hill. The 58th annual Children’s Festival kicked off Saturday. The 3-day long event features over 30 arts and crafts booths; from mother goose for the little ones, to carpentry for the older kids.
Local museums stage three events
Three special events will be offered the weekend of July 19-21 by Klamath County’s public museums. All are free and open to the public. – The 1969 film “Apollo 11” will be screened during an astronomy event starting at 8 p.m. Friday, July 19, at Steen Sports Park on Foothills Boulevard. The movie about the first moon landing will be followed by a viewing of the moon through telescopes provided by local amateur astronomers. The event is sponsored by the Klamath County Museum.
