Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro identified the man who was killed during a shooting at a Trump rally on Saturday as Corey Comperatore, who was a firefighter in the state.

(The Center Square) – Corey Comperatore, a 50-year-old man from Buffalo Township, Pa., died after a gunman opened fire during a rally for former President Donald Trump on Saturday evening. The former volunteer fire chief and father of two dove on his family to protect them from the bullets, according to Gov. Josh Shapiro. Beaver Twp. cop bitten while responding to neighborhood dispute
A dispute at a Beaver Township mobile home community erupted into claims of a neighbor being sprayed with mace and a police officer being bitten. Fifty-six-year-old William Armstrong was charged with assault after a neighbor told police that Armstrong tried to run him down with a pickup truck while he was mowing his lawn at the Maplecroft Manufactured Home Park off West Harvard Blvd.

Betty A. “Betz” Schriner, 87, of Muncy, Pa died Sunday, July 14, 2024, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Betty was the wife of Paul R. Schriner, and they were married on July 4, 1956, on the Fenstermaker farm in Lairdsville, where she grew up. Paul died on September 11, 2020, being married to Betz for 65 years.

When I was a teenager, my grandmother and aunt led an annual trip to Knoebels amusement park in Elysburg at about this time of year. It was the highlight of every summer as far as I was concerned. My friends and I pretty much had the run of the place. If we wanted to ride the Phoenix, brave the speed and bumps that giant wooden roller coaster had to offer 20 times, nobody would stop us. We could eat as many funnel cakes as the $20 mom packed in our pockets would allow. Those days, I never wanted to see end.
KCSD Police and Security services receive Stop the Bleed kits
Keystone Central School District Police and Security Services was recently presented with a donation of eight “Stop the Bleed” medical stations. The donation was arranged by Mark Trueman, Senior Manager of Prehospital Operations and Deputy Chief at UPMC Susquehanna Regional EMS. The Bleeding Control Kits are designed to provide bystanders and initial first responders with easy to access medical equipment for stopping life-threatening bleeding. The stations contain individual bleeding control kits with tourniquets, pressure dressings, gauze and wound packing material along with quick litters for moving injured casualties. Keystone Central School District is thankful for the generous donations from the Susquehanna Health Foundation, it said in a press release.
'Getting Ahead' grads moving on to improve their lives
SHAMOKIN — Another group of area residents is “Getting Ahead in the Valley.”. The program by the Getting Ahead Foundation (GAF) graduated its second class Tuesday evening at First United Methodist Church following completion of the 19 week course. It is a continuation of the program founded in 2017 by Rose Williams, of the Milton area. It helps those struggling with finding adequate resources.

Selins’ Grove Brewing Co Announces Closure
A business in Selinsgrove has closed indefinitely. The Selins’ Grove Brewing Company announced on Facebook that they are closing until further notice. The brew pub and restaurant is under new ownership and the post said “Some of the owners of the pub would like us to close”. The business was purchased by the new owners in June of 2023. The closure comes just before the annual Brew Fest in Selinsgrove, to be held on Saturday. Organizer Carol Handlan tells the Daily Item she was told Selins’ Grove Brewing would not be in attendance.
