Suicide Basin, a glacial lake tucked behind the Mendenhall Glacier, is a looming flood threat for Juneau residents this time of year. Glacial outburst floods or jökulhlaups have happened in the Mendenhall River every year for the last decade. The basin fills up with rain and meltwater throughout the summer until it drains downstream.

Candidate Fletcher wants to work across the aisle

From 1953 to 2021, the Legion state tournament featured a grand total of four 1-0 final scores in 69 years. Since then we’ve had four in the last 47 games, including Saturday’s nail bitter that saw the sixth-seeded South hold off the third-seeded Kenai Twins 1-0 on Day 1 of the state tournament at Mulcahy Stadium.
