Iredell Water asking customers to limit water use
IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — In light of the drought impacting the Carolinas, Iredell County residents are being asked to cut down on their water use. Iredell Water moved into a Stage 1 voluntary water shortage condition on July 3. With that, customers are asked to reduce any non-essential use of water in case the drought remains or even gets worse.

1 injured after shooting at Rocky Mount Wingstop on Fourth of July, police say
ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. (WNCN) — An altercation that led to a shooting at Wingstop has left one person with injuries, according to the Rocky Mount police. On July 4 around 8:42 p.m., officers responded to the Wingstop at 1569 Benvenue Road in reference to a shooting with injury. Once on the scene, officers said they found the victim at King Taco with a gunshot wound to the wrist.
City of Wilmington’s 4th of July Celebration draws large crowd
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — In downtown Wilmington, people certainly got a lot of bang for their buck this 4th of July. Hundreds upon hundreds of people packed the Live Oak Bank Pavilion to celebrate Independence Day. Pitt gripped in drought bullseye: Historically dry conditions raise concern
A dearth of April showers and less than half an inch of total recorded precipitation in June has made Pitt County a poster child for ongoing statewide drought conditions, an expert said. The U.S. Track and Field Olympic Trials wrapped up in Eugene, Oregon on Sunday with a handful of athletes with North Carolina ties booking a ticket to Paris. Charlotte native Anna Cockrell finished second in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 52.64 seconds. A Record Dry June Accelerates Drought’s Arrival
Extreme heat hit home in June, with little rainfall throughout the month. That combination brought the rapid onset of drought conditions in North Carolina. A boost from a late-month heat wave helped put our June temperatures well above normal. The National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) reports a preliminary statewide average temperature of 75.4°F. That ranks as our 22nd-warmest June out of the past 130 years and the warmest since 2018.
