CHRISTUS Health Awards More Than $3.3 Million to Non-profit Organizations
Four Northeast Texas groups from the CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances ministry received funds totaling $300,000 for community health initiatives. August 29, 2024 – (TYLER, Texas) – CHRISTUS Health is proud to announce the distribution of more than $3.3 million to 47 non-profit organizations across Texas, Louisiana, and New Mexico through the CHRISTUS Community Impact Fund.

The amount of troops that have died in connection to Gov. Tyler man gets life for ‘habitual’ drug offenses
TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - A Smith County jury sentenced a Tyler man to life in prison Wednesday for drug charges. Billy O’Neal Black, 63, was arrested on Dec. 1, 2023, for fleeing police and having marijuana and controlled substances. According to a release from the Smith County District Attorney’s Office, Black received life in prison for his charges due to the habitual nature of his offenses.

Tatum man arrested after threatening to kill neighbor
TATUM – Love your neighbor is not what an East Texas man was arrested for after allegedly pointing a firearm at another Tatum resident, according to our news partners at KETK. On Wednesday, a Tatum Police Department officer was investigating a report where a man had allegedly pointed a firearm and threatened his neighbor. The neighbor told police Kekoa Elijah Hurt threatened to kill him. “Our police officer made contact with the alleged suspect and determined that there was sufficient evidence to arrest the suspect,” Tatum PD said. Hurt was arrested for deadly conduct and taken to the Rusk County Jail where he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Longview City Council determines property tax rates for 2024-25 fiscal year
"One of the things that was talked about is, what is our appetite for maybe increasing the property tax rate. What they ultimately decided, was given the difficult times that are being experience by all the residents, that it is not the right time to ask the residents to pony up more in terms of property taxes,” said Longview PIO Richard Yeakley.
