Fatal Lawrence Co. crash: motorcyclist’s name released
LAWRENCE COUNTY, S.D. (KELO) — The name has been released of a motorcyclist killed in a one-vehicle crash Tuesday night, 13 miles southwest of Cheyenne Crossing. 53-year-old Kimberly L. Welch, of Rapid City, was driving her Harley Davidson northbound on US 85 near mile marker three, according to the S.D. Department of Public Safety.

Road rage & speed factors in man hitting motorcyclist; manslaughter sentenced
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KELO) — A Florida man was sentenced to involuntary manslaughter after striking a motorcyclist with his vehicle. On November 24, 2022, Giles Frederick Hulsmann, 38, of Fort Welton, Florida, was lost from his destination near Pine Ridge, S.D. Instead of orienting himself with the area, Hulsmann flew into a rage and drove about 80 mph in a 45 mph zone and struck a motorcyclist.

STURGIS, S.D. – Today was the first day of the 84th annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Nearly half a million people are expected to travel through the Black Hills this week. Vendors and exhibits are popping up all over Sturgis, offering food, drinks, biker history, and even some test rides. SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — It’s the first full day of the Sioux Empire Fair at the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds in Sioux Falls. Activities include an open-class swine show at 10 a.m., carnival rides starting at noon, an open-class sheep show at 3 p.m., an open-class goat show at 5 p.m. The grandstand entertainment features The Fury with special guest Kory & the Fireflies at 7:30 p.m. Fair admission is $10, $5 for children and free for ages 5 and under. The grandstand show is free with a paid admission. The fair runs daily through August 10th.

We are in for some more great pool weather today and Monday. For me, it needs to be in the low 90s to jump in the pool — 80s is a bit cool. But I am getting old. LOL. After these two great pool days, we will be tracking two cold fronts —one Tuesday and another Thursday.
Storm Chances Overnight, Warm and Muggy Conditions Continue
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - A few showers and storms are possible in places overnight, but many areas are expected to remain dry. Storms are expected to form in Minnesota and work their way south overnight. These storms will be losing strength and dissipating as they move into Iowa, but areas north of Highway 30 could see a few showers and a storm between 3AM and 6 AM. Any activity that makes it into eastern Iowa is expected to diminish shortly after daybreak Sunday, so impacts to weekend plans are expected to be minimal. Lows tonight drop into the mid to upper 60s.
