    Shirley Sampson Burdette

    Shirley Sampson Burdette of White Sulphur Springs, WV, passed away on June 23, 2024.

    Born October 2, 1938, at Covington, VA, she was number 7 of 10 children and a daughter of the late Elvira Wilhelm Sampson and the late Joseph F. Sampson.

    She worked at Leggett Department Store in Covington. She was a babysitter for many local children over the years and loved them as her own.

    In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by 4 sisters: Violet, Phyllis, Ruby, and Irene; and 2 brothers: Wayne and Basil Sampson.

    Shirley is survived by her loving and eternal husband, Paul Richard Burdette, who she married in the Salt Lake Temple – Salt Lake City, UT, on July 7, 1964; their 8 children and 27 grandchildren: Richard Shane (and Linda) Burdette of Temecula, CA, and their children – Rachel, Ben, and Rylie Burdette; Paul Shannon (and Sherry) Burdette of White Sulphur Springs and their children – Nathan and Tyler (and Cryslyn) Burdette; Christie Burdette-Mortensen of Morgan Hill, CA, and her children – Justin, Mariah, Jacob, Jared, and Josh Mortensen; Darren (and Janalee) Burdette of Pleasant Grove, UT, and their children – Carly (and Hunter) Cook, Darren “Chance” (and Beth), Janika, and Graden Burdette; David “Lane” (and Melanie) Burdette of Heber City, UT, and their children – Ashley (and Carson) Mahoney, Kelsey, Zachary, and Lindsey Burdette; Eric (and Melissa) Burdette of Ronceverte, WV, and their children – Landon and Atlee Burdette; Jason (and Amy) Burdette of Maxwelton, WV, and their children – Olivia and Grant Burdette and Brentlee and Adalynn Burdette; Kelly Burdette (and Jeff) James of Heber City, UT, and their children – Ryan (and Lexie), Kathryn, and Connor James. She is also survived by 2 great-grandchildren – Cayman Cook and Lainey Burdette; as well as 2 brothers, Gene and Darrell Sampson; and 1 sister, Juanita Musser, all of Covington, VA.

    She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she was blessed with the opportunity to serve in many callings. She loved to cook and host Thanksgiving holidays and other get-togethers with family and friends.

    Funeral services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on Rt 92 in White Sulphur Springs, WV, on Friday, June 28, 2024, at 12 p.m. with Bishop Mickey Van Natter officiating. Burial will follow at Alleghany Memorial Park in Low Moor, VA.

    The family will receive friends at the church 1 hour before the funeral services.
