WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS W.Va. (WVDN) – Days after the news broke that Timothy Loehmann, the police officer who shot and killed 12-year-old Tamir Rice in Ohio in 2014, had been hired by White Sulphur Springs Police Department, the announcement comes that he has resigned.

According to a report from WVVA, White Sulphur Springs Mayor Kathy Glover released a statement saying that Loehmann had been hired at the request and recommendation of the Chief of Police as a “probationary police officer and at-will employee for the City of White Sulphur Springs.” The statement goes on to say that as of today, July 1, Loehmann has resigned and is no longer an employee of the city. Glover closed the statement by saying that since “this is an employment matter, I will have no further comment.”
