Earlier this year, Zach Top exploded onto the country music scene with his sophomore album Cold Beer & Country Music. The 12-track collection put the Washington native at the top of the list of artists who are reviving the ‘90s country sound. At the same time, it proved that he is a top-tier singer, songwriter, and musician. However, long before Top was reviving the sounds of ‘90s country he was picking bluegrass songs with his siblings. During the recent Under the Big Sky Festival, Billy Strings invited him out to show off his bluegrass chops with a rendition of “Freeborn Man.”

Jake Shimabukuro and Mick Fleetwood have come together to preview their joint single, a take on the blues standard, “Rollin’ N Tumblin’.” The cover represents the duo’s initial sonic deliverable off their impending full-length fall release, which will arrive via Forty Below Records. Staying true to the numbers instrumentally-led approach (think Eric Clapton meets Jeff Beck), the number exhibits unique psychedelic-dripped uke riffs atop tribal beats, pulsed by the legendary backbeat.

Keyboardist Adam MacDougall digs into the group’s current era with guitarist John Lee Shannon and their new Mikaela Davis collaboration, After Sunrise. We played our first show with Mikaela Davis two years ago. It also happened to be our guitarist John Lee Shannon’s first show with us in New York. She opened, and it was a cool fit. Then we did a couple of tours with her band and she played on “Language,” [the title track of Circles Around The Sun’s 2023 album.] It was John’s idea to do a little EP, After Sunrise, with her. We went into the studio and wrote a couple of things together and then booked another little tour. We each did a set and then we had her up for three or four songs. In our world, that’s a lot because we only play eight songs a night. Her band would trickle up onstage and, by the end of the set, her entire band was out there.

Steve Marion, the guitarist better known as Delicate Steve, has a new album coming out next month called Delicate Steve Sings. Inspired by Willie Nelson’s cover album Stardust, the record culls together some faithful covers along with new compositions inspired by his musical heroes. For example, the first single was “I’ll Be There,” a new song Marion put together that took heavy inspiration from Bill Withers. Today, he’s returned with a more straightforward cover of Donnie and Joe Emerson’s “Baby.”
