An elephant escaped from Jordan World Circus on April 16, 2024, in Butte, Montana, and ran across multiple lanes of heavy traffic before being recaptured. The Whitefish Community Development Board voted to recommend approval for a conditional use permit for a 21-unit multi-family development on Iowa Avenue. The applicants, JLA Whitefish, LLC., are proposing the building on two lots totaling about half an acre at 7 and 23 Iowa Avenue. The property is bordered by Edgewood Place to the south and Iowa Avenue to the west. Quench your thirst for science at Whitefish Lake Institute’s Science Quencher. Fish, sheep, owls and rivers will be the topics discussed by local scientists at this event held on April 26, 5-7 p.m. at The Lodge at Whitefish Lake. This event is an opportunity to engage with local science experts who will share their passion for natural resource and conservation issues. Whitefish picked up two victories last week, taking down Troy and Corvallis, but falling to Frenchtown. John Russell Hutchens, 74, passed away at his home near Whitefish, on April 7, 2024, after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Whitefish to James and Myrtle (Kramer) Hutchens on Oct. 1, 1949, the fifth of six siblings, joining four sisters and later a brother.
