Kids rule too in Best of Whitefish
Eight-year-old Poppy George stood out amongst older folks, placing second in the Best of Whitefish Best Athlete category. George said her mantra is, “I believe in myself. I believe in my team. I believe in God.” George has been a martial arts student at SBG Gym for three years and has a gray/black belt. She also plays soccer with Glacier Surf and her soccer team brought home the gold in their latest home competition, the 3 Blind Refs tournament at the KidSport Complex in Kalispell. The annual tournament is the largest in Montana with over 180 teams coming in from Montana, Idaho, Washington and Canada. Aided by her teammates’ awesome performances, George helped her team score two goals for the win. Among George’s accolades is Mutton Busting Champion, as she competed at the Montana Longhorn Company's Mutton Busting Championship. Thank you, Flathead Valley, for helping make Whitefish Woody Weekend XII a huge success. It was a great show with 45 beautiful classic boats from all over the Pacific Northwest, California and Hawaii, 12 of which were new to Whitefish Woody Weekend. These boats represented 18 different manufacturers and 5 different chapters of the Antique and Classic Boat Society. Twenty-eight of the 45 participants came to the show from outside the Flathead Valley.On behalf of all the boat captains, thank you to the over 1200 dock-walkers who enjoyed the great weather and came out and supported the event on Saturday....

The Glacier Twins A team picked up a doubleheader sweep over Libby at home on Tuesday, June 25, winning the first game 19-3 and then following that up with a 15-2 win.In the first matchup, Glacier scored 12 runs in the first inning, and the route was on. Clarice E. Harrison, 95, passed away on Nov. 15, 2023. She was born in Culbertson, on March 8, 1928, to Persis Mack and Archie Downen. She married Dean Harrison on May 20, 1948. Clarice and Dean welcomed their son Dan that year, followed by their daughter, Marlene in 1953. Whitefish Council approves strongly contested airport hangar
The Whitefish City Council on Monday approved a conditional use permit for a 5,400 square-foot hangar at the Whitefish airport despite robust public opposition.Only three of the 17 citizens who commented at the council meeting were in favor of the building project on the grass landing strip east of town. Chris Hubble, 69, passed away on June 20, 2024, at Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born on Jan. 26, 1955, in Ogden, Utah, to Bert Ray and Anna Joy Hubble. The 45th annual Whitefish Arts Festival is July 5-7, at Depot Park in downtown Whitefish. The Whitefish Lake Triathlon hosted 165 athletes on Saturday from 13 states and one Canadian province. The annual event returned after being canceled last summer due to wildfire. For the classic sprint event, athletes swam a 1/2 mile in Whitefish Lake starting at City Beach, then biked 12.4 miles up Wisconsin Avenue and East Lakeshore Drive before finishing with a 3.1 mile run.Whitefish locals represented well, taking the top overall male and female spots.Reigning 2022 champion Ryan Seguine, 44, finished first in 1 hour, 7 minutes and 41 seconds. Whitefish’s annual Fourth of July celebration and fireworks display will take place at City Beach on Thursday evening.There will be numerous vendors on site selling treats like shaved ice, mini doughnuts, ice cream, corn dogs and barbecue. Multiple motor vehicle accidents in Glacier National Park late Wednesday afternoon led to congestion and the closure of Going-to-the-Sun Road to traffic, officials said.
