Patricia Nell Murphy, 75 of Whitefish, passed away on June 4, 2024. She was born in Missoula, on Jan. 1, 1949, to parents George and Frances Dodge. She grew up in various small towns around Montana with her sister and brothers. She graduated from the University of Montana Western in Dillon with a bachelor’s degree in education. She settled in Whitefish in 1984 where she raised her daughter Jessica and worked at an accounting firm until her retirement in 2015. The Pin and Cue has been part of the Whitefish community since 1984, rallying spirits and providing a gathering place for all ages. The business offers 16 slick bowling lanes, plus a diner, a bar and casino, and a laundromat. Fairground grandstands to be evaluated this week
Flathead County Commissioners contracted with Martin/Martin Consulting Engineers to conduct a visual structural condition assessment of the grandstands at the Flathead County Fairgrounds. The evaluation will focus on the grandstand’s support structure to assess structural durability. Information collected during the evaluation will be summarized into a report on the general conditions of the structure and outlining areas that may need further study. The report will include a subjective measure of the severity of any structurally notable conditions that are observed, as well as providing preliminary recommendations for more in-depth investigations or schematic repairs and/or maintenance to extend the useful life of the grandstand. If possible, the report will include recommendations on near term structural stability of the grandstands for usage. Flathead County expects the report will be made final on June 21. Badrock Invitational at Glacier Bank Park next week
Badrock 15U Baseball, which is made up of Whitefish, Columbia Falls and Eureka youth baseball players, is hosting the first annual Badrock Invitational at Glacier Bank Park, the home of the Glacier Range Riders, June 27-30. The tournament is a double elimination with a four-game guarantee. Free summer meals available for children and teens
Free meals are available to youths 18 and under in Flathead County over the summer months when school is not in session.Meals will be served at schools, parks and other locations in Evergreen, Kalispell, Somers-Lakeside and Whitefish starting June 17. Columbia Falls locations have already started serving meals.No registration, proof of income or identification is required to participate at any location and all youths are welcome to participate at any site. Picklers tickled with new courts at Smith Fields
The popularity of pickleball has exploded in recent years and now there are six, new green and purple pickleball courts for players to enjoy at Smith Fields in Whitefish. The racket sport is a mixture of tennis, badminton and ping pong. Major expansion for The Springs OK'd by Council
After hearing what Councilor Ben Davis called “thoughtful feedback” from the public, Whitefish City Council last week approved a planned unit development for an expansion of The Springs at Whitefish. Public comments about improving outdoor access for residents of the senior living facility caused the council to consider postponing the matter.
