U.'s new baseball field to be named after an MLB owner, but stadium won't open next year
SALT LAKE CITY — The University of Utah's new baseball field now has a name, but it will be another season before the team moves in to play games. The university's board of trustees voted Tuesday to name the field within the forthcoming 1,200-seat stadium Charlie Monfort Field at America First Ballpark to recognize a $10 million donation from Monfort, co-founder and co-owner of the Colorado Rockies and a University of Utah alumnus, toward the new stadium.

Stolen Credit Card Added To List Of Charges During Man’s Arrest
An officer parked in the Vernal Middle School parking lot intervened in a disturbance on August 8th in the area of Independence Park which led to an arrest on a variety of charges. According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause, 35-year-old Samuel Tony Mendelkow arrived in the area on his bicycle and loudly confronted a man at the park, pursuing an altercation. The officer stepped out of the vehicle and called Mendelkow over to him which he failed to do as he continued “acting in a threatening and tumultuous behavior”. The officer gave Mendelkow a lawful order to stop which was ignored, resulting in his arrest for disorderly conduct. During the arrest, Mendelkow was found to be in possession of a financial card with another person’s name on it, which he claimed he had permission to have. The card holder was contacted and said that no one had permission to be in possession of the card. Samuel Mendelkow was arrested on the offenses of Disorderly Conduct and Felony Unlawful Possession of a Financial Card.

It’s been a hot, hot summer in Utah with questions about a late monsoon. Wonder no more. Suddenly, it’s all about the rain for the last three days. Lehi had its third wettest two-day period on record, with 2.01 inches. Salt Lake City got 0.77 inches, its 17th highest level of precipitation in a two-day period. Those two cities, along with Provo and Spanish Fork, recorded more rain on Monday and Tuesday than they typically get in the entire month of August.
