MORRISON – A Morrison man was seriously injured Monday when his motorcycle and a vehicle collided in rural Sterling. Tanner Rennie, 27, of Morrison, was driving his motorcycle south on Freeport Road when it was hit by a vehicle driven by Laura Jenkins-Reffett, 59, of Altona, according to a Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office news release.

A man and his child safely escaped after their car rolled into the river, according to a news release from the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office. Shortly before 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 5, Whiteside County Deputies were dispatched to the boat launch in the 22000 block of Moline Road in rural Sterling. Initial information provided to Whiteside County Dispatchers was that a vehicle had gone into the river with a child inside.

Freeport Road Construction Underway
POLO – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that construction on Freeport Road in Ogle and Whiteside counties is underway. The work zone is from East Lynn Boulevard in Sterling to West Sterling Road south of Polo. Daily lane closures are expected as crews patch, mill, and resurface the road. The $3.3 million project is scheduled to be completed in November.

LYNDON, Ill. — A Lyndon man was arrested after allegedly drawing a firearm during a meeting with a sheriff's deputy. According to the Whiteside County Sheriff's Office, officers conducted a field ID on a suspicious person on the 400 block of 2nd Ave. E in Lyndon shortly after 10 p.m. on Saturday, July 6. While the deputy was speaking with the suspect, identified as 38-year-old Ryan Poulter, officers claim Poulter pulled out a firearm from his waistband. The deputy then restrained Poulter, and he was taken into custody without injury.
Deputies Respond to Two-Vehicle Injury Crash
On Monday, July 8, 2024, at approximately 2:30 p.m., Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office Telecommunications received a 911 call, reporting a two-vehicle crash on Freeport Road, at the intersection of Penrose Road, rural Sterling, IL. Initial investigation, by responding Deputies and the Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit, determined 59-year-old Laura Jenkins-Reffett of Altona, IL, was traveling northbound on Freeport Road and attempted to turn west onto Penrose Road. There, a southbound motorcycle, driven by 27-year-old Tanner Rennie of Morrison, IL, collided with the vehicle driven by Jenkins-Reffett. Rennie was transported from the scene via OSF LifeFlight with serious injuries. Jenkins-Reffett was issued a Citation for Failure to Yield while Turning Left. The crash remains under investigation.

MORRISON — A Sterling man jumped into the Rock River and saved his 3-year-old son from a quickly sinking vehicle that had rolled into the river on Friday night. Deputies were dispatched around 7:30 p.m. Friday to the boat launch in the 22000 block of Moline Road in rural Sterling, according to a news release from the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office issued Sunday morning. Initial information provided to Whiteside County dispatchers was that a vehicle had gone into the river with a child inside.
Whiteside County Deputy Encounters Armed Suspect
On Saturday, July 6th, at approximately 10:13 PM, a Whiteside County Deputy conducted a field ID on a suspicious person in the 400 block of 2nd Ave East in Lyndon. While the deputy was speaking with the suspect, Ryan E. Poulter, age 38, of Lyndon, Poulter drew a firearm from his waistband. The deputy was able to restrain Poulter and take him into custody without injury to the deputy or Poulter. It was later learned that the handgun carried by Poulter was reported stolen from Saginaw, Michigan.

On Friday, July 5, 2024, at approximately 7:27 p.m., Whiteside County Deputies were dispatched to the boat launch in the 22000 block of Moline Road, in rural Sterling, IL. Initial information provided to Whiteside County Dispatchers was that a vehicle had gone into the river with a child inside. Deputies arrived on scene to find a male, identified as John Cavazos of Sterling, and his three-year-old son on the bank of the river. Cavazos told Deputies he and his family had been fishing, and his vehicle was parked near the boat launch. They started packing the vehicle to leave when, for unknown reasons, it came out of park[ing gear] and rolled into the river, with the three-year-old inside. As the vehicle sank, other bystanders at the boat launch called 911.
