Educators Encouraged to Register for Workplace Wednesday Tours
It's not too late to sign up for Workplace Wednesday offered by the Regional Office of Education #47. Sessions will be held July 10, 17 and 24 from 8:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. Workplace Wednesday gives teachers the opportunity to visit businesses in different Career Pathways throughout the three counties area. By visiting places of employment, it helps educators develop real world lessons for their classrooms and prepare students for their future in the workforce. Businesses also help educators identify students who would fit into their jobs.
Calendar: 4-H Federation hosts pork chop dinner
MORRISON, Ill. — The Whiteside 4-H Federation Pork Chop Dinner will be 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. July 12 at the Whiteside County Fairgrounds, 201 W. Winfield St., Morrison. Meals can be enjoyed on-site or drive up and take them home. Each $10 meal comes with a pork chop sandwich, baked beans, apple sauce, chips, cookie and water.
Water Cycle Program at Odell Library on Tuesday
Kids of all ages are invited to join in for a fun and educational morning to learn about the water cycle through stories, activities, and even water balloons!. The free program is sponsored by Odell Public Library, the Whiteside County Agriculture in the Classroom, and the Whiteside County Farm Bureau Foundation.

Whiteside County Sheriff’s Report for Wednesday June 26th
On Monday, June 24th, at approximately 4:09 p.m., Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office Telecommunications received a 911 call, reporting a two-vehicle crash at U. S. Route 30 and Illinois Route 136, in Fulton, IL. Initial investigation by the sheriff’s Office determined a red Hyundai, driven by 79-year-old Wayne Kubert of Morrison, was traveling southbound from Illinois Route 136 to Frog Pond Road.

OREGON — In October of last year, the Ogle County Health Department received a CDC Addressing Conditions to Improve Population Health (ACTion) grant for $500,000 each year from 2023-2026 to increase access and availability to healthy and nutritious foods, education for home-based food production, food pantries, and mini food centers (refrigerated and dry food).
PFPD Fire Chief Gerald Armstrong Retires, Mike Thompson Appointed Chief
The Prophetstown Fire Protection District called a special meeting on Monday, June 24 to accept the resignation of Fire Chief Gerald Armstrong and appoint his successor. Armstrong announced to the board in October 2023 that he was intending to retire in April after nearly 7 years as chief, 10 years as assistant chief, and a total of 41 years in fire service. He retired last year from his Whiteside County job after 31 years of employment. He put his name in for another 2-year term during the election of officers in April 2024, saying he wanted to continue working with the department’s prospective successors.
June 24 Sheriff’s Office Reports
On Monday, June 24, 2024, at approximately 4:09 p.m., Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office Telecommunications received a 911 call, reporting a two-vehicle crash at U. S. Route 30 and Illinois Route 136, in Fulton, IL. Initial investigation by the sheriff’s Office determined a red Hyundai, driven by 79-year-old Wayne Kubert of Morrison, IL, was traveling southbound from Illinois Route 136 to Frog Pond Road. Kubert failed to yield to traffic on U. S. Route 30 and proceeded through the intersection, after stopping at the stop sign. There, Kubert’s vehicle impacted a silver Pontiac, which was westbound on U. S. Route 30. The driver of the Pontiac, along with two adult occupants and two juvenile occupants, were all transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation. Kubert was cited for Failure to Yield at a Stop Sign Intersection. This charge is merely an accusation, and all parties are innocent until proven guilty.
