WHITEWATER, Wis. — A strong offensive outing combined with some great pitching from starter Logan Thill helped the Clinton baseball team officially lock in a tie for second place in Rock Valley Conference Rock Division.

With the Cougars’ 7-2 win over Whitewater on Monday, Clinton and Beloit Turner each finish conference play with a 9-6 record. Brodhead/Juda took the league title at 10-5.

The Whippets struck first with a run in the first inning before Logan Thill tied it with an RBI groundout in the second and an error brought Payton Whalen home on the same play for the 2-1 lead.

Gavin Wesling had an RBI triple and Grayson Guetschow a one-run single as part of a four-run third for Clinton (12-7 overall). Thill’s RBI double in the seventh gave the Cougars their seventh and final run.

Logan Hendricks and Guetschow each had two of Clinton’s 11 hits. Thill limited Whitewater (2-19, 0-14 RVC Valley) to just two runs (one earned) on three singles and three walks with nine strikeouts. Whalen threw the seventh and allowed a single but got a double play to face the minimum.

    • BIG FOOT 7, MONROE 1: In Monroe, It was a great day for the Wojcik family as brothers Brady and Will knocked in four of the Chiefs’ seven runs to help win Monday’s RVC crossover.

Will and Brady Wojcik each had one-run singles in the four-run fourth, where Connor Weeks added an RBI single and Skylar Jacobs had a sac fly.

Each brother added another RBI single in the fifth, and a second run came home on Will’s single via an error by the third baseman.

Evan Henningfield and the Wojciks all finished with two hits while Ashton Hale had two for the Cheesemakers (7-17, 4-10).

Dustin Foss took the loss for Beloit (1-15, 1-12) as he started and went six innings while allowing seven earned runs on 11 hits with two strikeouts.
