WHITEWATER — Take a break with the Savory Sounds Summer Concert Series on Thursday afternoons at 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at Flat Iron Park, 402 W. Main St., with the next one July 11.

Hosted by the Whitewater Arts Alliance, the Savory Sounds concerts evolved from a three-concert series to five. With a variety of music, first a German band then an Irish one, the next concert features the Piper Road Spring Band, a bluegrass group.

“The variety we have this year is appealing to locals and those visiting to enjoy the different kinds of music performed each week. The founder — Christine Hayes, an adjunct professor at UW-Whitewater — she did a fantastic job, and now we’re carrying out the tradition,” gallery Director Kim Adams said. “It’s a quality program that people really enjoy gathering for. It’s generally local talent, which people love to support.” Each series has a food vendor, with Rocky Rococo Pizza and Pasta being on site for July 11.

Each series has a sponsor from the Whitewater business community. “I want to thank the sponsors for helping us put on this quality program for the community, without them we couldn’t carry it on,” Adams said.

The next bands are Hispanic-influenced Amanecer y Mas on July 18 and Reggae fusion group Jimmy Sugarcane on July 25.

This year’s sponsors include Fairhaven Senior Services, First Citizens State Bank, Coburn, Premier Bank and Olm & Associates.
