Wildfire tamed by helicopter crews
COLTON — Swift action from helicopter crews on Tuesday, July 9, prevented a fire in the Snake River Canyon in southern Whitman County from growing. Volunteer firefighters from Whitman County Fire District 14, based in Colton-Uniontown, and Asotin County Fire District 1, based in Clarkston, responded to the fire around 3 p.m.
NOTICE OF A CONDITIONAL USE HEARING
The public is notified of a conditional use permit request from AMS 2024 BTW-Pullman, WA LLC. The proposal is for a 28,556 square foot warehouse and distribution center on a 13.75-acre parcel in the North Pullman-Moscow Corridor District. The project location is in Section 32, Township 15N., Range 46E., W. M., Whitman County, Washington. The site address on Pullman Airport Rd. is yet to be determined.
PUBLIC NOTICE OF MEETING TO ADOPT 2024-25 BUDGET AND CONDUCT PUBLIC HEARING
NOTICE is hereby given, pursuant to RCW 28A.505.050 and RCW 28A.505.060, that the Board of Directors (the “Board”) of Palouse School District No. 302, Whitman County, Washington (the “District”) will hold a public meeting on July 25, 2024 at 6:00 PM at the Palouse School Library located at 600 E Alder St, Palouse, WA 99161. The meeting is called for the purpose of fixing and adoption the budget of the District for the ensuring 2024-25 fiscal year. Prior to adoption of the 2024-25 budget, the Board will hold a hearing for the purpose of receiving comments from the public on the 2024-25 budget. Any person may appear at the hearing and be heard for or against any part of the 2024-25 budget, the four-year plan, or any proposed changes to uses of enrichment funding under RCW 28A.505.240 (a/k/a Replacement Educational Programs and Operations Levy). Upon conclusion of the hearing, the Board shall fix and determine the appropriation from each fund contained in the 2024-25 budget and shall, by resolution, adopt the 2024-25 budget, four-year budget plan summary, and the four-year enrollment projection. 2024-25 budget information has been available since July 10, 2024. Pullman man Accused of Trying to kill Moscow man Pleads not Guilty
COLFAX - The 38-year-old Pullman man accused of trying to kill a Moscow man has pleaded not guilty. Cesar Marmolejos entered the plea to attempted 2nd-degree murder during his arraignment Friday in Whitman County Superior Court. Marmolejos is accused of stabbing a 22-year-old Moscow man at the Sunset Mart in Pullman on Monday afternoon. If convicted, he could spend the rest of his life in prison. Marmolejos remains in the Whitman County Sheriff’s Office Jail in Colfax on a 750,000 dollars no-cash bond.
Whitman County Fire Crews Respond to Fire West of Colfax
COLFAX, WA - Fire crews from Whitman County are actively managing a fire on SR 26 near Milepost 121, west of Colfax, which originated from a single firework in a dry brush field. The blaze quickly spread from the field to a nearby structure, which became fully engulfed in flames.

The WSU Whitman County Master Gardeners are hosting four more plant clinics in July and August at the Koppel Farm Pullman Community Garden. Anyone with gardening and plant related questions is invited to visit the picnic shelter at Koppel Farm to ask a Master Gardener this Saturday, July 6th from 8 to 10 a.m.
