Boston’s Jayson Tatum hangs 51 points on the Washington Wizards
When Boston Celtics All-Star forward Jayson Tatum breaks a shooting slump, he doesn’t pull any punches. And he didn’t in his 51-point pummeling of the Washington Wizards, powering the Celtics’ 116-87 beatdown of the Wiz at Capital One Arena on that fateful day. The St. Louis native put up the third-most points of his career on his way to shooting 18-of-28 from the floor overall, 9-of-14 from beyond the arc and 6-of-6 from the charity stripe. Tatum nabbed 10 rebounds and 7 assists to round out his stat line. He committed one turnover — late in the game at that. If you...

The Boston Celtics dominated the NBA en route to the 18th championship in franchise history last season. They led the NBA in offensive rating and were second in defensive rating, proving themselves elite on both sides of the floor. Joe Mazzulla's team benefitted from the moves Brad Stevens' made last summer, bringing in Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday via two major trades. The downside to having such an elite roster is that it can get incredibly expensive. Boston is a second-apron luxury tax team that comes with multiple punitive measures, including a high tax bill. The new Collective Bargaining Agreement is...

Doc Talk: Advertisements for Himself — “How to Come Alive with Norman Mailer”
A testament to the power of benignant narcissism. How to Come Alive with Norman Mailer. Directed by Jeff Zimbalist. At the Coolidge Corner Theatre beginning August 16. Should Norman Mailer, who died in 2007 at 84, be regarded as a role model? The author of 40 books of fiction, nonfiction, and the gray area in between, he may have had more impact in defining the role of literature, art, and masculinity in shaping politics and culture than any other contemporary writer. On the other hand, his worst impulses of misogyny and egomania have since been distorted into the kind of tawdry, toxic politics that he would probably have despised.
