While some students were headed to out-of-state colleges or directly into the workforce through a trade, half of the board was dominated by cards signaling one of Iowa’s public universities as students’ next step.
Nashua Woman Among 20 Compete On Live Lottery Game Show At Iowa State Fair
Three North Iowans are among the 20 contestants who will compete on a live lottery game show at the 2024 Iowa State Fair with a chance to win up to $5 million. The Iowa Lottery says they received more than 67,000 entries into their “Fair Fever” promotion that will conclude with the game show on opening day of this year’s Iowa State Fair. Contestants slated to play include Michelle Cerwinske of Nashua, Ryan Habeger of Algona, and Scott Stewart of Waterloo.

Rembrandt Man Arrested Following High-Speed Chase
A Rembrandt man was arrested soon after an early-morning pursuit in Buena Vista County. According to the Storm Lake Police Department, the incident began around 5:30am today (Tues) when officers observed a suspect driving recklessly. A high-speed chase ensued with the suspect, who was identified as Julio Garcia of Rembrandt. In the interest of public safety, authorities opted to terminate the pursuit. Shortly after the pursuit was stopped, authorities received reports that Garcia had crashed near the Woodlawn Cemetery in Alta and fled the scene on foot.
Feds are still assessing damage in NW Iowa a full month after flooding
(Radio Iowa) – One month after flooding devastated the northwest Iowa town of Rock Valley, the mayor says work is still underway to bring in temporary housing. Mayor Kevin Van Otterloo says the residents of about 150 households can no longer live in their homes. “We are working hard on trying to get housing options, trailer court options. We’re working on a lot of stuff,” the mayor says. “We are at first working on temporary options for people to at least have a place to stay at night, instead of staying with relatives, because that can only go on for so long.”

10 Squared Women Of Guthrie County Donates Over $14,000 To Stuart PD Community Programs

The 10 Squared Women of Guthrie County recently presented their second-quarter donation to the Stuart Police Department Community Programs (SPDCP). The decision to support the group was made during the group’s May 28 meeting in Panora. Following presentations from three local organizations, the group announced their $14,400 total. SPDCP is a 501(c)(3) non-profit incorporated in 2022 that focuses on improving relationships between law enforcement and the community through outreach, education, and youth activities. Their programs include Books & Badges, Bicycle Rodeo, National Donut Day, Summer Youth Programs, National Night Out, Shop with A Cop, and many others. Sgt. Katie Guisinger says, “Funding for community programming and youth activities can sometimes be hard to come by, and this donation will allow SPDCP to not only enhance our current programming but also to expand with new programming.” Since its creation in 2017, the 10 Squared Women of Guthrie County has donated $343,050 to various local projects.
