Five people were injured, two critically, after an apparent propane explosion and fire inside a food truck in Whittier.

Firefighters and paramedics were dispatched at 9:16 a.m. to the 6700 block of Greenleaf Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

The food truck belongs to Lift, a popular coffee shop in the community that was operating out of the truck next to their brick-and-mortar storefront.

According to a post on the coffee shop's Instagram account, the roof fell in at the building and the truck was being used to sell coffee and food while repairs were made.

Footage from the scene showed one woman on a stretcher with a bandaged leg and a man in an ambulance with his arms and hands wrapped in bandages.

The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation, but according to the county fire department, it appears to have been a propane explosion.

The coffee shop has been a fixture on the corner of a quiet street with lots of foot traffic.

It's unclear if those injured were employees or customers, or a combination of the two.

The Whittier Police Department is investigating the incident.
