BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) — An Alabama native made history in the reality television competition world by winning season 25 of “The Voice.”

Selma native Asher HaVon won the singing contest Tuesday alongside his coach and award-winning singer-songwriter Reba McEntire.

U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell spoke on the House Floor Thursday to congratulate HaVon on his win.

“Asher got his start singing in the church and even performed for President Obama during his visit for the 50th anniversary of the Selma to Montgomery March,” Sewell said. “I ask my colleagues to join me in congratulating the one, the only, Asher HaVon of Selma, Alabama, for his first-place finish as the winner of ‘The Voice.’ We in Selma are so proud of you, and we can’t wait to see everything that you will continue to achieve.”
