SCOTTSBORO, Ala. (WHNT) — Crews are working to fight an apartment fire in Scottsboro, according to authorities.

The Scottsboro Police Department (SPD) said at about 3:45 p.m. police and Scottsboro Fire received a call about a fire at the 400 building at Graystone Apartments on E. Willow Street.

SPD said the fire appeared to be contained to the 400 building when crews arrived. Jackson County Sheriff Rocky Harnen, who is also on the scene, said the building appeared to be a total loss with extensive damage to the second floor.

Authorities said no injuries have been reported at this time.

An SPD spokesperson said fire crews were actively working to suppress the fire as of 5:17 p.m. Tuesday.

Harnen praised the work of firefighters on the scene.

“There’s a lot of firemen out here,” he told News 19. “They are doing some great work.”

Residents are asked to avoid the area.
