FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) – Two people were arrested and charged with abuse of a corpse, along with other charges, on Wednesday, according to the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department.

The sheriff’s office said on July 31 they were notified of a dead 60-year-old woman in the area of Betsy Ross Lane in Florence.

During the investigation, it was discovered that the body had moved from one place to another on the property and that roughly five to six hours passed before anyone called law enforcement.

Two people, Jennifer McCain and Justin McCain, were both arrested and charged with abuse of a corpse and tampering with physical evidence. Additionally, Jennifer was charged with unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

LCSO said that currently, no foul play is suspected in the 60-year-old woman’s death and the McCains are only facing charges for events that took place after her death.

The body has been sent for an autopsy to confirm the cause of death.
