‘Dinner Dad’ places 4th in Guy Fieri’s Flavortown Recipe contest

HARVEST, Ala. ( WHNT ) — A Harvest dad placed fourth in a recipe contest and says he hopes his content makes cooking more fun to bring people together through food.

Fred Baker, also known as Dinner Dad, placed 4th in Guy Fieri’s “Big Flavor, Bigger Heroes” Flavortown Recipe Contest.

When asked to reflect on what it felt like to come in 4th place, he said placing in the competition validated him and made him want to push further in his skills.

“Coming in 4th place was a mix of emotions. I was incredibly proud to have made it that far in such a competitive environment,” Baker said. “It validated my skills and the hard work I’ve put into my culinary journey. On the other hand, it fueled my determination to push even further and continue improving.”

After coming across Fieri’s contest on social media, Baker entered among hundreds of applicants.

He chose a Cajun-style recipe after learning that the grand prize was a trip to New Orleans. He said his mom’s side of the family is Cajun so he figured he might have a shot.

“I did an old Emeril Lagasse recipe that I picked up in the early 2000. And it’s a bacon-wrapped andouille stuffed double stuffed pork chop,” Baker said.

After placing fourth, he was asked how he hopes his content will impact viewers and the community and he expressed how he wants to encourage families to spend more time together in the kitchen and around a dinner table.

I hope my content encourages families to spend more time together in the kitchen and around the dinner table. By making cooking approachable and fun, I want to inspire both seasoned cooks and beginners to try new things. With my upcoming series on dorm-friendly meals, I’m particularly excited to help college students, like my daughter, enjoy home-cooked meals even when they’re away from home. I also aim to raise awareness about the importance of fresh, quality ingredients and how cooking can be a powerful way to bring people together.
