RUSSELLVILLE, Ala(WHNT) — The Belgreen Bulldogs will go down in history on Friday when they kick off their first home varsity football game in school history.

Landon Cox, a senior on the team, says this is what he and his teammates have been waiting for.

The Tennessee Valley Authority increases base rate again; largest increase in two decades

“It’s definitely special, it feels different, never played a football game at home so it’s pretty special,” Cox said.

Hunter Woodruff is also a senior on the team, he says this is all new to him.

“I’m really excited for the game I think it’s going to be a lot of fun, it’s going to be something new to experience,” Woodruff said.

The last time Belgreen played a varsity football game was 92 years ago, but never a home game.

Head coach, Jonathan Raper, told News 19 Friday that this is a big night for the community.

“It’s just so big, our community is very excited, our student body and our school and everyone is excited about having a home football game on a Friday night, there is just nothing like it, and nothing compares to playing on a Friday night, everyone is so excited,” Raper said.

The Bulldogs are not just playing on any home field, but a brand new turf field.

“It’s so awesome, I didn’t have to paint lines last night, we can just show up and play it’s just an unreal experience and I told these kids you may never play on something this nice again, and being able to play all our home games here is just unreal,” Raper said.

Woodruff says this is a memory that these bulldogs will never forget.

“It’s something we will remember forever,” Woodruff said.

The Bulldogs will face Shoals Christian on Friday night, kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
